We are now five days in to our May Challenge! I am interested to here from all of you on how things started off. Is it easier or more difficult than you anticipated? What have you been doing to remember your challenge?
My challenge is off to a good start. I was able to work out for 20 minutes three days last week (which I think is pretty good since the challenge didn't technically start until Wed) and went for runs both days on the weekends. I am realizing that for this challenge, more importantly than getting in the workouts is realizing that I actually am not as busy as I make myself to believe and that I do actually have time in the day to do this (and other important things!).
I also changed some of the settings for this blog so those of you with IPads should now be able to post comments without difficulties.
I hope everyone has a good week! I am looking forward to seeing the Miller Family this weekend!
Support and encouragement is a very important part of the 30-day challenge. Help each other remember their goals and encourage each other to stick to it.!

It turns out that during the week I can remember to do my push-ups (50/day in 2 sets of 25 is my goal) but at the weekend I am too busy doing stuff and tend to forget. Last night I remembered at bed time, today i didn't remember until I saw the auto-email from Katie about this blog entry. Tomorrow I go for a 2-night work trip to Grand Rapids and should be able to fit it in to my evening routine at the hotel which is pretty common when I am in business trips. -Kevin
ReplyDeleteThis month am committed to getting out and moving with exertion at least 30 minutes a day. Walked the dog May 4 and 5th. Fun getting to talk to the neighbors who are again outside after long winter. Today spent 3 hours moving large wintered plants from basement to their place in the sun outside. Hard to know who enjoyed this more, the plants, birds or me! A great day to be alive here on the river! Spring has sprung. Barb
ReplyDeleteWe had salmon this past week and I try to walk with Brian on the days I don't go to the Y. Last night's Cinco de Mayo dinner we hosted probably set us back a bit - but who can complain about 88 degrees today and eating outside for the 4th night in a row!
ReplyDeleteTom and I will start our May challenge this week since we just got back from Seoul. We both did a ton of walking every day though.
ReplyDeleteI started the portion control thing immediately, so I'm into it a couple weeks. It is going pretty well. no seconds. Except we had a Cinco de Mayo party and I blew it. I also have been walking most days, and will jump the gun on my next commitment: I will walk at least 40 minutes a day at least 5 days a week. I am covering about 3 miles in 45 to 55 minutes now, depending on how I feel. It is pretty easy to get started now, the challenge will come when the typical Seattle weather returns. Brian
ReplyDeleteSo I've been having a tough time this week with my push-up challenge - Monday and Tuesday nights at the hotel I didn't end up doing it until right when I was going to bed, not my most energetic time of day for it. This morning I knew I would be working all day, then off to the airport to fly home arriving after bedtime, so I actually did them before leaving the hotel in the morning.. also not my most energetic time of day. At least I did swim 20 min/day at the Y for the two days when I was in Grand Rapids.
ReplyDeleteHi guys,
ReplyDeleteDon't get down on yourselves if you have a tough day. Dad- having one day/special occasion is a fine exception on something like this. It sounds like the portion control and walking are going really well and are good changes. The takeaway from this 30 day challenge should be that you are establishing better mealtime habits--not that you are banning yourself from having a bigger meal every once in a while.
Bro-I am about to go to bed, and I still need to do my push-ups! So don't get down on yourself that you do them later in the day. People who work generally have to find time to exercise at the start or the end of the day. It sounds like you are doing them, so good job! Also, I am impressed at how often you are able to find pools and work out when you travel.
